In 1996 an Italian woman, Giovanna Moretti (Mbeleje), traveled to Tanzania for a holiday with two friends; they spent three weeks in the mission house of Kigwe, a village about 30 km from Dodoma the Capital of Tanzania. Why Dodoma? Why Kigwe? Because in Italy they knew a Tanzanian Priest, Onesimo Wissi, who invited them to spend a period of time in his village.
In 1997, Giovanna returned to Tanzania with other friends, to stay there for three months. Meanwhile, in Italy, another NGO, Gruppo Tanzania Onlus, started to raise funds for Tanzanians with few resources.
In 1998, Giovanna decided to live in Tanzania. Giovanna together with the community leader Mzee Hamisi Nkopano and other people founded KISEDET.
