ITINERARY

1° day: Departure
Departure from your country of origin to Dar Es Salaam.

2° day: Arrival in Tanzania
Arrival at the International Airport of Dar es Salaam, transfer to a guest house. In the afternoon visit of the city. We suggest you walk to the harbour and go to the ebony market. Overnight stay at the guest house.

3° day: Dodoma (B – D)
After breakfast, transfer to the bus station, departure to Dodoma. The journey lasts almost eight hours, the bus will stop for a quick lunch break. If you opt for KISEDET’s rented car you can stop for lunch in the town of Morogoro, half way from Dodoma. After the arrival into the Capital, transfer to a hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

4° day: Chigongwe (B – L – D)
In the morning, visit to KISEDET’s headquarter and meeting with the staff. Transfer to the village of Chigongwe, one hour far from Dodoma. On your way to Chigongwe you can enjoy the view of the rocky hills called kopje. After lunch, meeting with KISEDET’s staff working at Chigongwe Family long-term shelter where the guest house “Elena Fontana” has been recently built. Free time for settling in. Dinner and overnight stay at the guest house.

5°-6° day: Chigongwe and nearby villages (B – L – D)
After breakfast, transfer to the nearby villages where KISEDET operates, especially Kigwe where the organization was founded and a professional school was built, 7km from Chigongwe. During these days you will have the opportunity to walk around, meet the local community, see scenes of daily life, watch wonderful sunsets, have lunch or dinner at the village of Chimendeli, engage in a traditional music night.
N.B. Only on Friday it is possible to visit the animal market at Kigwe.

7° day: Dodoma (B – L – D)
In the morning transfer back to Dodoma for a walking tour in the city center. The tour includes the visit to the Saba Saba market or to the Machinga complex where you will be able to buy some souvenirs and artisanal crafts. After lunch in a restaurant, transfer back to KISEDET’s Shukurani short-term shelter and drop-in center to say goodbye to the staff. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.

8° day: Mwanza (B – L – D)
Breakfast and departure for the city of Mwanza located on Lake Victoria. The latter is the second biggest lake in the world and it’s the main source of the Blue Nile. Mwanza was founded at the end of the XVII century on the south coast as the centre of the cotton commerce and it’s the second biggest city in Tanzania. It’s famous for its houses built on the hillsides of rocky mountains facing the lake and it’s 800km far from Dodoma, reachable through a paved road. Lunch along the way, arrival at the hotel in Mwanza. Dinner and overnight stay.

9° day: Mwanza (B – L – D)
Breakfast and visit to the local association dealing with the support of street kids. After lunch, free time to relax on the lake’s beach. Dinner and overnight stay.

10° day: Lake Victoria (B – L – D)
Breakfast and hike on Lake Victoria. Lunch at a restaurant on the lake. Visit to the city of Mwanza, dinner, and overnight stay.

11°-12° day: Serengeti National Park (B – L – D)
Breakfast and departure for Serengeti National Park, the oldest and the second biggest National Park in Tanzania. In the morning, entrance and game drive inside the park, one of the most famous animal sanctuaries, with lunch included. Dinner and overnight stay at the environmental research centre guest house in the park.

13° day: Ngorongoro Crater (B – L – D)
Breakfast and early departure for the last game drive inside the Serengeti National Park. After eating your lunch box, entrance at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to see from above the park’s crater considered the 8th wonder of the world for its breathtaking view and the presence of the African Big Five animals. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel in Karatu or Mto wa Mbu.

14° day: Mto wa Mbu (B – L – D)
Breakfast and visit to the association of responsible tourism in Mto wa Mbu village. After a traditional lunch, transfer to Arusha in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.

15° day: Pangani (B – L – D)
Breakfast and transfer to the historic citadel of Pangani, located on the coast, with the chance to see the mount Kilimanjaro along the 450km journey on a paved road. Lunch along the way. Dinner and overnight stay at Bahari Pori lodge in Pangani.

16° day: Maziwe Island (B – L – D)
In the morning, breakfast and boat trip to Maziwe island, inside the marine park carrying the same name. Lunch box and return on land. Dinner and overnight stay at the resort.

17° day: Pangani (B – D)
After breakfast, departure for the boat trip on Pangani river. Pangani rises on the estuary of the homonymous river and it’s one of the oldest cities on the coast. In the XIX century, it was one of the main harbours for the sorting of slaves. There are still buildings dated back to that period, but not always well preserved. Free afternoon to relax at Bahari Pori lodge. Dinner and overnight stay.

18° day: Pangani (B – D)
Free time to relax at Pangani or to visit the town. Dinner and overnight stay at the resort.

19° day: Bagamoyo (B – L – D)
Breakfast and departure for Dar Es Salaam passing through Bagamoyo with a quick stop to the historical sites. Lunch in the town of Bagamoyo, the county seat of the homonymous district, in the Pwani region on the Indian Ocean coast. Arrival in Dar Es Salaam at the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.

20° day: Return (B)
After breakfast, it is time to leave and say good bye to this beautiful country. Transfer to the International airport to fly back to your country of origin.
