Happy ending story
C. is a 17-year-old girl who, despite her young age, faced several life challenges and trauma including being abused by her father. Now she is attending form three and although the community around her does not believe what happened to her, she continues her studies hoping in a brighter future.
C. told us her touching story: her path at KISEDET began in august 2018 through street outreach activities while she was living and working on the street (full time). C. comes from a tough background, her family members having dysfunctional behaviors that often lead to internal and violent conflicts.
Since she became a KISEDET beneficiary, C. received psychological and medical support including HIV/AIDS risk assessment, family therapy, school enrollment and scholastic materials. Local government authorities, especially street executive officers and community champions, provide great supervision to help her to continue with her studies.
Thanks to the family department, C. was reunified with her family: she moved back home to live with her parents and sibling at home and started to feel comfortable within the home environment. To the question “what do you want to do when you grow up” she replied by saying that she would love to become a social worker in order to help other children in difficult situations and referred to Sabina, part of KISEDET’s staff, as her role model.
Now she is finally enjoying family life and looks forward to pursuing her goals and dreams. “It was not easy sleeping on the streets” she said, “I remember it was hard for me and my mother, no one believed me and being physically abused was an everyday occurrence”.
C. is now ready to leave her past behind and move forward towards a new life.
