More news from Tanzania

Several condolences messages came from Africa and from the whole world to celebrate the passing of President John Pombe Joseph Magufuli. Throughout his mandate, Magufuli stood up for his ideal of Africa as a whole, and also actively fought corruption and built infrastructures.

His successor is Samia Suluhu Hassan, from the same party, with a working background in international cooperation. Hassan is the first female President of Tanzania; we are really happy about this and hope this can be a decisive step towards women’s emancipation in our country.

Meanwhile in our Chigongwe house, the building of our MULTIMEDIA HOUSE is still in progress. Here our young guests will find both a quiet place to study and dedicated areas for socializing and recreational activities, such as yoga and art therapy, that have already proven to be very much appreciated. We are also planning to use a part of the Multimedia House as a guesthouse for associates and volunteers: this project might help us to keep funding our projects. In Chigongwe, what we are really keen on is our idea of a productive activity campus: a place where the kids will be able to test themselves in small agricultural projects, planting, farm animals and fish breeding, and carpentry workshop.

It is extremely important that the children are oriented and accompanied towards a profession that will make them free and independent, and allow them to support their families – if they want to. We, on our side, believe in microcredit as the best financing form for the first steps of their own projects. Kisedet’s commitment in this field resulted in many case stories of personal success: such as Said’s and Salum’s, now both electricians; Jacob, who, thanks to his job as a welder, is now able to support his big family; and Mrisho, rescued from a context of domestic violence and now proceeding with his school career.
